Rockman Xover, an iOS game set in the Mega Man universe, has had a rough go of it the past couple of months. The game, which was released in Japan back in November, looks like it won't get a North American release at all. Yeesh.

For those of you who aren't total Blue Bomber fanatics, Rockman is the Japanese name for Mega Man. But you probably already knew that. Just covering all the bases.

The thing is, even though "Rockman" is part of the title of the game, everyone's favorite runnin' and gunnin' robot is not in it at all. That's where the "Xover" part of the title comes in, which is short for "crossover" apparently. Instead of Mega Man, you step into the gigantic robotic boots of something called OVER-1. Ugh. You're better off spending your time with this kind of crossover instead.

According to Capcom SVP Christian Svensson in an Ask Capcom thread:

Based upon the largely negative feedback from MM fans, I’ve requested that we place any Americas release on hold for the time being. We will revisit at a later date.

In addition to Mega Man being absent, the gameplay is also a culprit for a lot of the negative feedback. Beyond moving in a straight line and shooting enemies there's not much more to Rockman Xover. If you want to check out some footage of the game for yourself, there's plenty to digest over at the Mega Man Network.
