Indie darling and PlayStation Network title Journey may have been critically acclaimed, but it was far from commercially successful according to thatgamecompany's Jenova Chen.

In an interview with Polygon, Chen discussed the financial pitfalls of Journey. "I wouldn't say that the development of Journey was a successful example of game development," Chen said. "We bankrupted the company. I think to have a financial success, that is going to change everyone, it has to be much bigger than a game on the PlayStation platform."

Fortunately, Journey did end up making some profit, but nothing compared to the likes of another indie hit, Minecraft. Chen made sure to give Sony due credit for allowing thatgamecompany to delay Journey's release until it was 100 percent ready. That said, it's clear the developer wants to expand its reach for whatever game it drums up next.
