Did you have plans this weekend? Heading out with some friends, perhaps going to see that 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie the kids are so excited about? Perhaps you should hear us out before you solidify anything, because you're going to want to hear what's going down on Steam this weekend.

Two fantastic open-world games, Gearbox Software's Borderlands 2 and Arkane Studios' Dishonored, will be free-to-play the entire weekend on Steam, letting anyone who is way behind the 8-ball to get a taste of two excellent games. If you haven't played either of these games yet, make sure you try them out while we shake our heads menacingly at you.

We love these promotions where games go temporarily free-to-play (even if it's just a weekend), but we wonder if Steam will ever do this with newer titles similar to the free ones you get with PlayStation Plus and Xbox's Games with Gold. Don't get us wrong, getting to play any game free of charge is wonderful, but ones from 2012 don't appeal to us as much as StriderThief or some other game from this year.

You can check out Borderlands 2 and Dishonored for free starting today.
