The Torment: Tides of Numenera Kickstarter is still going strong. With 4 days left, they have raised an amazing $3,274,970 and have released the first in-game screenshot to the public.

The screenshot, seen above, is of an area called “The Bloom.” It’s essentially a living sentient predator that also doubles as a habitat. The area is made of 2D pre-rendered backgrounds, an old graphical technique that brings back memories of PS1 era games. Tides of Numenera will be making good use of pre-rendered backgrounds for all of its environments.

The next stretch goal that the inXile has is the $3.5 million mark, at which point Chris Avellone, Obsidian Entertainment’s creative director, will sign on the team. Pat Rothfuss, well known author of the Kingkiller Chronicles, has also recently announced his involvement with the project.

Nearly 60,000 funders have backed the Torment: Tides of Numenera so far. The game is currently due to be released in December of 2014.
