Update:

The official Resident Evil Facebook page made a new post about pitching a potential Resident Evil 2 remake to the big wigs at Capcom:

Hello RE fans! This is H again!

Right after the RE HD Remaster project was finished, I actually started putting together my ideas for this "RE2 Project". So, I just brushed it up and went to see my boss to present the basic concept of the project already…

I have a feeling this mysterious "H" person could be Hiroyuki Kobayashi, a longtime programmer and producer at Capcom. Hiroyuki was a promotional producer for Resident Evil 0, a programmer for Resident Evil 1-2, and a producer for Resident Evil 4-6.

Best of all, H posted the following picture, to prove that he is indeed trying to get an RE2 remake approved by Capcom:

Original Story:

Some recent posts on social media indicate that Capcom is interested in remaking one of the greatest zombie games of all time, Resident Evil 2.

Due to the success of Resident Evil HD earlier this year, Capcom is giving Rebecca Chambers' prequel adventure the remastered treatment. While Resident Evil 0 HD isn't supposed to come out until early 2016, Capcom is already considering what to do next. They've caught wind of everyone begging for a remake of Resident Evil 2 (which is my favorite of the series). Apparently, they're not sure of how they should remake it. While Capcom had the 2002 versions of Resident Evil 0 and the Resident Evil remake to use as a basis for their HD remasters, Resident Evil 2 only has its original version from 1998. Given the aged look of RE2, Capcom would undoubtedly have to give it the Final Fantasy VII treatment and remake the game from the ground-up. Now comes the question of how. Should Resident Evil 2 HD be made similarly to the 2002 RE remake or should it have the over-the-shoulder perspective of Resident Evil 4-6? I personally hope for one done in the style of the 2002 remake, but with modern graphics of course.

Here's what Capcom posted on its Facebook page in regards to a Resident Evil 2 remake:

Hello Resident Evil fans!

This is Capcom R&D Division 1!

First off, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all Resident Evil fans, for your passion, enthusiasm and continued support for the Resident Evil brand.

Enthusiasm for a Resident Evil 2 Remake is something we've been hearing from you over the years, and has drawn some recent attention in the media.

However, as the team owns the RE brand, we're not certain how we feel about this approach, and would like to ask your honest and frank opinion about the “Resident Evil 2 Remake” and what the brand identity is supposed to be about?

Capcom's reps were surprised at the 9,000 comments and 20,000 likes the previous status received:

Hi Resident Evil fans!
This is H from Capcom R&D Division 1!

Wow...!!

I was told by my boss to check out the post by "R&D Division 1" on the Resident Evil Facebook page, and THIS IS AMAZING....

Thank you so much for your passion and continued support for Resident Evil brand!

He was also telling me...“can YOU make a worth seeing game to answer these fans full of passion???"

This order actually makes me SUPER excited...!!!

While no release date has been set, Resident Evil 0 HD will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in early 2016. We hope Capcom adds more bonus features this time around.

Until Resident Evil 2 HD arrives, I'll just leave this song here for you guys to listen to on repeat:
