Marcus Fenix and the rest of the COGs are returning in an HD remaster of their first adventure. That's right — Delta Squad is back to kill more Grubs.

Polygon reports that inside sources are saying Black Tusk Studios is working on a remastered version of the first Gears of War to come out for Xbox One. This re-release will feature (surprise) updated visuals and remastered cutscenes done by Plastic Wax, who crafted Lego: Jurassic World and Lego Dimensions' trailers and the cinematics of Neverwinter and Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. Polygon claims that photos of the game's remade intro cutscene were shown to them, which featured a massive Locust invasion.

We have a feeling we'll be seeing this remake and Black Tusk Studios' next Gears unveiled at E3 2015, as Phil Spencer said that Xbox's presentation at the event will be fully "geared" towards first-party IPs, which includes the Gears of War franchise.

Just last month, Black Tusk's studio manager, Rod Ferguson, claimed that there isn't any kind of a remastered "Marcus Fenix Collection" coming to Xbox One, but he did hint that they are working on other Gears of War projects other than the fabled Gears of War 4 (or whatever it will be called) game that they're working on. While this was bad news for those hoping for a Master Chief-esque anthology starring Delta Squad, at least we're getting the first Gears back. With the first game's 10-year anniversary coming in 2016, it would be the perfect time to replay the war one more time, but we do have a feeling this will eventually lead to many asking for two and three's remakes.

Just for the sake of reference, here's a sample of some of Plastic Wax's animation work:
