We get our first glimpse at Sledgehammer Games' newest entry in the Call of Duty franchise.

At last month's Game Developers Conference, Sledgehammer Games hosted a panel where the studio unveiled an image (provided below) that depicted actual in-game character models that were being featured in the next major title of the Call of Duty series, IGN reports. The Sledgehammer panel during which the image was revealed was called "Quest for Quality: Maximizing the Relationship Between Creative and Production."

Earlier this year, Activision announced that Sledgehammer Games was being added to the rotation of Call of Duty development. Activision's current plan is for both Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward to each release a Call of Duty title every three years. Having both development studios each put out a new game every three years will ultimately reduce the downtime between the releases of each new COD. Previously, Sledgehammer helped Infinity Ward design Modern Warfare 3.

Activision claims that this unannounced Call of Duty game will be designed with next-gen  consoles at the forefront of its development. The released picture is of a detailed, gritty soldier wearing a combat helmet with, presumably, another soldier next to him wearing a ski cap. While this picture doesn't really say much, the graphical details on the soldier's face are quite noteworthy. We expect to see the official unveiling of Sledgehammer's first solo Call of Duty title at E3 this June, though typically our first glimpse comes during the NBA Playoffs.
