Apple always seems to be a step ahead of everyone, even the media. True to form for the world's most valuable company, Apple dropped its list of "Best Of" apps today, giving the Game of the Year award to Ubisoft's Rayman Jungle Run.

We enjoyed the game as well when we reviewed it back in September. But we have to say that we're a bit surprised that it took the top spot, ahead of big games like Where's My Perry? and Angry Birds Star Wars?

The runner-up spot went to Loren Brichter's innovative word puzzle game Letterpress. This was also a surprise, especially for a such a minimalist title. But its definitely found an audience of folks looking for something a little different than the standard challenges from games like Words With Friends and Scrabble.

Apple's collection of titles is a great way to give your games library a little kick start. So check it out! You will probably find more than a few games that you might have overlooked this year.

And of course, be sure to check out our list of the 20 Best iOS Games of 2012!
