The story behind SimCity just gets weirder and weirder. First, there were the numerous server issues that players had to contend with launch. Then, there was the first piece of downloadable content which was essentially just a Nissan ad. Now, players are being offered free DLC for… buying toothpaste? What the heck is happening with this game?

According to PC Gamer (additional details via Gamespot), anyone who purchases specially marked Crest or Oral-B toothpaste, tooth brushes, or other dental hygiene products, will receive either a SimCity Attractions Set, a five dollar origin coupon, or some in-game cash for the Facebook game, The Sims Social. This is particularly strange considering that The Sims Social is closing in June!

The SimCity Attractions Set allows you to build tourist traps that increase a city’s happiness and serve as a destination for travelers from other cities. The attractions include: Giant Garden Gnome, Dolly the Dinosaur, Llary the Llama, MaxisMan Statue, and the World's Largest Ball of Twine.

So brush your teeth kids, and you’ll either get cash for a game that is going to close in a couple of months, an expansion for a game that most people are angry at, or five dollars on a DLC platform that rootkits your computer. Oral Hygiene. Yay!
