SimCity has been the subject of gamer ire ever since its release, with fans vilifying the always-online feature of the game and the decision to make it integral to the gameplay. But now a modder has come out and revealed that the game can be played offline with a bit of tweaking.

Redditor AzzerUK has unlocked the secrets of getting the game running offline, albeit without any saving, syncing, or any interactions with the region surrounding cities.

This is done by modding out the disconnect timer, meaning the game can be played indefinitely without a connection to the game's servers. He's also found out how to extend cities beyond the pithy boundaries that players are given, allowing them to build outside city lines and connect roads far beyond their original reach.

Watch his video below and see the modding magic for yourself. Would you use a mod to tweak SimCity in its current state? Let us know!
