Call of Duty co-creator Jason West left Respawn Entertainment, a company he co-founded with Vince Zampella, back in May, reports Kotaku.

West and Zampella created Infinity Ward back in 2002, as they turned the Call of Duty series into an iconic and financially bankable franchise. Zampella confirmed the departure today, releasing a statement on the company's website in which he stated West left Respawn to, "take care of some family issues."

Last week, Zampella tweeted that Respawn Entertainment will be making an appearance at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo, presumably to preview their long in development game for Electronic Arts.

"E3 will be therapeutic for us, as we finally get to start showing our work again," said Zampella. "I know the team was excited about the response we got from just admitting we were going to attend."
