Nintendo has unveiled a trailer for the new Fire Emblem coming to the 3DS, revealing that your customizable avatar will be the main hero this time and not the co-star.

This shogun-filled trailer for the next entry of the Fire Emblem series shows a new tale of war. Fire Emblem's trademark rock-paper-scissors-style of RPG combat between swords, axes and lances expands to a new, Feudal Japan-inspired tale. In Fire Emblem: Awakening, your created character (with the default name of Robin) was mainly the co-star of the story, with Chrom and Lucina being the main characters. This time, your custom-created character will be at the center of the game's events.

You must choose between one of two major factions, which will vastly change the game's events and what happens to you and your party depending on whom you pick. The Hoshido are a peace-loving people, while the Nohr are all about glory and battle. Your character could either be a character born in the Hoshido royal family or one raised by Nohr's royalty.

Here's what Nintendo had to say about this new Fire Emblem:

For the first time in the series, the main playable character is not only a customizable avatar, but also the main hero or heroine of the game. Players must choose to take one of two major paths, resulting in two different experiences: the “Hoshido” side for a more traditional experience, or the “Nohr” side, which makes the story more complex and the difficulty level more challenging.

This new Fire Emblem will launch for the Nintendo 3DS sometime in 2016.
