Not content to let the success of Clash of Clans go unchallenged, Disney and LucasArts have released Star Wars Commander on iOS, bringing the same format as the highly-successful mobile game to the Star Wars universe.

The press releases calls the game "a free-to-play combat strategy game" where "fans will join either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire to recruit and lead an unstoppable force across the Star Wars galaxy in epic battles to claim ultimate victory for their side." The game will allow players to use "the full array of vehicles, weapons and technology from the Star Wars universe" when building their command posts, including Stormtroopers and AT-ATs for the Empire and familiar faces like Han Solo and Princess Leia for the Rebellion.

We're surprised this game hasn't already come out, because it's a brilliant idea. Take the super-popular Clash of Clans formula, add the Star Wars name and worlds, throw in some unique mechanics and instantly Disney and Star Wars brings in all of the Star Wars faithful and some of the Clash of Clans audience who want to try something new. We wouldn't be surprised if this game stays on top of the iOS charts for a long time coming.

Star Wars Commander is available right now on iOS. You can check out the launch trailer below.
