FromSoftware, the developers of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2, are to be acquired by Kadokawa, a Japanese publisher.

According to Game Informer, Kadokawa has announced its plans "to acquire a controlling interest in Dark Souls developer FromSoftware." That controlling interest will come in the form of 80% of FromSoftware's value being bought. In order to get that control, Gamebiz reports that the transaction will be worth 1.753 billion yen.

Kadokawa is responsible for publishing Lollipop Chainsaw, Killer is Dead and the PlayStation Vita's Demon Gaze in Japan. FromSoftware self-published Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 in Japan as well, but went to Bandai Namco to publish the games worldwide.

It's too early to tell what this acquisition will mean for the future of FromSoftware and the Dark Souls series, but we'll keep you updated on any developments regarding it. The acquisition will be finalized on May 21.
