New evidence suggests 2K Games is about to reannounce its second XCOM title, possibly under new branding, after a lengthy and reportedly troubled development cycle.

Announced way back when in 2010, XCOM was to be a first-person shooter that took place in the early 1960s. Players would take up the roles of FBI agents investigating alien phenomenon around the country. Since then, the game has undergone several supposed transformations, and its release date has remained ambiguous. Earlier this April, 2K pulled down all registered domains and video channels associated with XCOM, leading many to speculate the publisher had given up on the game. However, new information has come to light that indicates 2K isn't quite ready to move on just yet.

New mysterious promotional materials have been sent to a handful of sites, including Videogamer. The site did an unboxing of sorts, and showed all the wares and trinkets included inside the package. Most of the clues (travel pamphlets, microfilm, government documents) recalled XCOM even if the title wasn't mentioned by name. The site also believes when XCOM returns, it will have been rebranded as "The Bureau."

Another video also made the rounds this past weekend, which featured the Russian meteors. A heavily modified speaker can be heard over the footage, who stated in his day, the truth wasn't covered up, it was erased. The video was posted by Veritas MCMLXII, or Truth 1962. A lot of pieces are suddenly lining up, which could mean 2K is readying an announcement about this XCOM game very soon.

Check out the Russian video below, and let us know if you're glad the FPS XCOM is finally on its way in the comments.
