At this point, it’s safe to call Pokémon GO a certified global phenomenon. I could quote a lot of numbers, but there’s not really a point to doing so. It’s huge. It’s everywhere. It’s the subject of every other article that comes across your Facebook feed. It’s precisely engineered to strike at the nostalgic heart of those who grew up with the original 150 Pokémon, but given the game’s ubiquity it’s only a matter of time before creatures from later generations make it in.

The upcoming release of Pokémon Sun and Moon will push the total count of pocket monsters over 800, and it’s no secret that among that number there are more than a few bewildering creatures. We need some modicum of protection. We need to take a stand against bad Pokémon designs. It’s not just a matter of nostalgia. Jynx is part of the original cast, and she is objectively the worst. But it’s too late to save ourselves from the likes of her and Mr. Mime. We need to recognize the mistakes of character designers past. With an eye toward our children’s futures, here are the 10 Pokémon we don’t want to see in Pokémon GO.
