Captain Olimar and his Lemmings-like team of Pikmin are returning soon for Pikmin 4.

Legendary game creator Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed with Eurogamer that Pikmin 4 is in development and is getting close to being finished. Those tiny, adorable little guys will be back soon apparently. Miyamoto revealed a few months ago that Pikmin 4 was in development, but it wasn't until recently that he admitted Nintendo EAD's team is close to completing the project.

"It's actually very close to completion," Miyamoto said. "Pikmin teams are always working on the next one."

It looks like the team might be working on Pikmin 5 based on Miyamoto's rhetoric, once they fix up the next game and get it ready for mass production. Since Nintendo has yet to officially market Pikmin 4 and already revealed the rest of its 2015 lineup, we probably won't be playing the game (presumably on the Wii U or NX and not the Nintendo 3DS) sometime in 2016. I have to admit, Pikmin 4 could be an enticing launch title for the NX.

The original Pikmin launched for the Nintendo GameCube in 2001, which focused on strategy and time management while you lead an army of little Pikmin and helped them survive on an alien planet. It was followed by a sequel on the GameCube 3 years later. Unfortunately, fans had to wait 9 long years until Pikmin 3 launched on the Wii U in 2013. I wonder if Miyamoto's statement about Nintendo EAD working on the next Pikmin game was true between 2004 and 2013.
