As reported by Endgadget, the first title to receive the Oculus Rift experience will be the Valve shooter Team Fortress 2. Is this virtual reality or virtual insanity?

The Oculus Rift's goal is to give gamers a stereoscopic and immersive gaming experience. A free Team Fortress 2 update, dubbed the VR mode, is expected to be released within the next several weeks.

"Team Fortress was sort of the obvious choice for this," said Valve Software programmer Joe Ludwig in an interview with Endgadget. "The Team Fortress community is large and healthy. There are millions of people playing TF every week, but they're also used to us shipping a lot of updates."

Although it will only be available on Windows during its launch, there will be support for Mac and Linux users sooner than later. "We plan to add support for OS X and Linux as quickly as possible," said Oculus VP of product Nate Mitchell. "It's just a matter of time."

Will the Oculus Rift VR headset be the ultimate experience in virtual reality gaming, or is it a ho-hum accessory which will be long gone and forgotten? Feel free to comment below!
