The developers of Guacamelee! and Mutant Blobs Attack are unfortunately not going to be able to make their summer launch window for Severed.

Drinkbox Studios, primarily known for their luchador-fueled Metroidvania game, Guacamelee!, have announced that their upcoming touchscreen action game, Severed, isn't going to be making its planned summer release. Severed is all about intense touchscreen gameplay where you control a one-armed heroine who must explore dungeons and cut through enemies from a first-person perspective. There are also some light role-playing game elements to Severed, and we're glad to see it animated in the vibrant style similar to Juan's undead wrestling extravaganza.

Here's what Drinkbox had to say about the delay:

You might remember us from such games as Guacamelee! and Mutant Blobs Attack, or our currently in-production game Severed. We’re also the company who fills our games with memes and dumb jokes.

So, why are we sending you this message? Well, we wanted to give you a quick update on the progress of Severed. The good news is that Severed is days away from hitting Alpha! The bad news is the game won’t be out this summer as we had previously expected. Severed is a really different game from anything we’ve made before and we want to take a few additional months for playtesting and tuning so that we can make it the best game it can be.

We also need sufficient time to add more memes and dumb jokes.

Unfortunately, there's no word as to Drinkbox Studios' new launch window for Severed, but I have a feeling we'll be seeing it before the end of the year. We just hope that it does well, considering that it'll be launching for the PS Vita.
