In about six weeks, Grand Theft Auto 5 managed to outsell its predecessor's lifetime sales. It would appear Take-Two Interactive has a bonafide hit, wouldn't you say?

Since launching on Sept. 17, 29 million copies of Grand Theft Auto 5 have been sold. In addition to a new franchise sales record, Rockstar's sequel has also destroyed the record for being the fastest-selling entertainment release of any type since they started tracking such numbers.

"The title received stellar reviews, shattered entertainment industry records, and has already sold-in nearly 29 million units to date," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two in a statement. "The extraordinary success of Grand Theft Auto V illustrates the positive momentum in our business and consumers’ enduring appetite for the highest-quality interactive entertainment."

In that same financial update, Zelnick also hinted at Take-Two's next generation plans. Though GTA wasn't mentioned, the publisher currently has ten different titles in development for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Many of those titles are planned for release during fiscal 2015, which means the wait won't be long until we see what's in store.
