Magneto himself, Michael Fassbender, has said that principal photography in filming the Assassin's Creed movie begins this September.

In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net, Michael Fassbender declared that he will be filming Justin Kurzel's theatrical adaptation of Assassin's Creed this September. This will mark the second project having Kurzel at the helm and Fassbender in the spotlight, as they are filming a new Macbeth movie prior to Assassin's Creed's production. Co-starring alongside Fassbender in both of these projects will be Marion Cotillard, whom you'll remember from The Dark Knight Rises and Inception. Kurzel's other projects include the Australian film, Snowtown, and an episode of The Turning, both of which netted the director a variety of awards.

The Assassin's Creed film will likely focus on Desmond Miles, who is forced by Abstergo Industries to use a time-travelling device called the Animus to relive the lives of his ancestors to score information that will help the company achieve world domination. In terms of whether or not he'll star as Desmond or one of his ancestors, Fassbender remained reluctant to divulge any information on the movie's plot.

“You don’t know that. Don’t listen to what they tell you, that’s the first rule,” Fassbender said, smiling.

Here's what Fassbender had to say about the delays in the movie's development:

You say it’s a long time but what I’ve found–it’s all new to me but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time. It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It’s exciting. It’s going to start this year, we’ll be filming in September.

That’s always the challenge of something that’s so dense, to really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things. So yes, that is part of it, getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story.

We have a feeling Fassbender will be playing multiple roles in the movie, where he could be playing Desmond Miles in the present and perhaps one of his ancestors in the past, such as Altair, the protagonist of the first game who lived in the early 1200s. Stay tuned as we'll provide up-to-date coverage on the Assassin's Creed film once more information is released.

Assassin's Creed is expected to hit theaters on December 21, 2016.
