New reports indicate the former LA Noire development team working at KMM on Whore of the Orient has been let go, while the game's development is in limbo.

Multiple sources close to the studio and the development of Whore of the Orient have told MCV that while KMM itself hasn't shut down yet, the staff has been released of their obligations. Whore of the Orient was another detective game featuring the impressive Depth Analysis used in LA Noire to provide realistic motion captured actors. While the game hadn't found a publisher to this point, KMM was still shopping it around, hoping to find a buyer.

"Whore of the Orient is a unique and extraordinary story and game, and we are still actively pursuing the right investor to partner with," KMM's David Mitchell told MCV in a statement. Though it isn't an outright declaration confirming the rumors about the Sydney-based studio, it also isn't an outright denial either.

While the rest of the gaming public awaits more concrete details, this is hardly the first (and likely not the last), studio to be affected by layoffs during 2013. Just what fate truly lies ahead remains to be seen.
