The original 1989 Nintendo JRPG that intertwined American culture and Dragon Quest mechanics, Mother, has hit the Wii U as Earthbound Beginnings.

Ness' PK Fire-slinging buddy from Earthbound, Lucas, is making his return to the Super Smash Bros. arena as a DLC character.

Though many of you may only know Ness from his many appearances in Super Smash Bros., he's also the star of Earthbound. And now he's in a fan film.

The Benson brothers have decided to tell the tale of EarthBound and its fans' ongoing fight to get the entire series an official, Western release.

Now that EarthBound is finally coming to us via the Wii U Virtual Console, hopes for localization of its sequel, known as Mother 3 in Japan, have been raised. In fact, one fan translator has offered his services, and his translation files, should Nintendo decide to bring the sequel over as well.

After a massive deluge of fan outcry, Nintendo, via today's Nintendo Direct presentation, has decided to release the massively popular EarthBound on the Wii U Virtual Console in the U.S. and Europe before the end of 2013.
