It may not have gone at Veronica Mars type speed, but Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues has met its Kickstarter goal of $1 million.

To date, Shroud of the Avatar has amassed $1,006,256 with the help of 14,673 backers. A huge reason for the campaign's success rests on the shoulders of Ultima creator Richard Garriott, who has thrown his hat into the RPG ring for another shot at greatness. Joining him on the journey is Dragonlance writer Tracy Hickman, who joined the Shroud team as the lead story designer.

In recent interviews, Garriott said it was his desire not to be tied to a publisher's demands, as well as giving gamers a more hands on approach to the development process, which served as the catalyst for his Kickstarter involvement.

The campaign ends April 7th, and the title has a tentative October 2014 release on PC, Mac, and Linux.
