The game formerly known as Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem strays even further from both RPG franchises in this E3 2015 trailer.

Nintendo and Atlus unveiled a new trailer for Genei Ibun Roku #FE (name obviously not final), which used to be known as Shin Megami Emblem X Fire Emblem. Since Genei Something Hashtag isn't even the game's final name, we'll continue to call it Shin Megami Emblem X Fire Emblem just for the sake of clarity until Nintendo and Atlus give us something more definitive. Despite its nomenclature, SMT X FE is nothing like either franchise. This game is set in modern Tokyo and will feature a group of adventures coming together and encountering heroes from an alternate world. Why bother with light when you can feature glamour vs. darkness? SMT X FE features a lot of upbeat, vocaloid sounds and focuses on a bright and cheerful visuals portraying a Jpop concert setting, which doesn't really sound like either franchise to be honest. Nevertheless, we can't wait to see where Atlus takes us.

This game looks to cater to fans of Hatsune Miku more than anything else. As a fan of both the Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem series, this isn't really what I was expecting from their crossover at all. That bizarre name change is a perfect symbolism of the identity crisis going on with this game. Nevertheless, SMT X FE will launch for the Wii U sometime in 2016.
