Gematsu was kind enough to translate the Famitsu preview for the non-Japanese literate crowd, spilling the beans on the game's premise: we'll be following the origin story of longtime Yakuza protagonist Kazuma Kiryu and Majima Goro. The preview shows off two locales within the game, Kamurocho, Tokyo and Soutenbori, Osaka, which are two of Japan's biggest red light districts.
As the preview states, "Kamurocho is the place to go to see every one of your desires fulfilled. Whether it be eating, drinking, sex, or even gambling, Kamurocho has it all and then some." Soutenbori, meanwhile, "is a uniquely Kansai-esque city with an electric atmosphere, and home to the region’s greatest yakuza organization, the Omi Alliance."
So we have two young upstart yakuza members, each coming from different backgrounds, in two of the seediest areas in all of Japan. If that doesn't sound like the makings of a Yakuza game, we don't know what else you need. The preview had no information on Yakuza 0's launch, but we expect to see and hear a lot more from Sega about this title at the Tokyo Game Show in a couple of weeks.
