New Regency and Ubisoft are thinking outside the box, as they have decided not to hire an established screenwriter to pen the big screen adaptation of Assassin's Creed. British scribe Michael Lesslie, playwright of Prince of Denmark, will write the screenplay.

The movie is a big creative investment for Michael Fassbender, as he serves as the lead actor and a producer on the project. The story focuses on a bartender who, thanks to a clandestine organization, travels back in time and inhabits the body of his ancestors to retrieve ancient artifacts. Fassbender is no stranger to the video game world, as he provided the voice of Logan, the King of Albion in the 2010 release Fable III. The actor, best known for his role as Magneto in X-Men: First Class, also turned in a scene stealing performance as forever creepy android David in Ridley Scott's Prometheus.
