July’s Games With Gold Include Assassin’s Creed 4 and Gears 3

Microsoft has finally stepped things up with Xbox's Games With Gold offerings throughout the month of July.

The Xbox Wire has revealed July's free Games With Gold for those with an Xbox Live Gold membership, and let's just say it is a drastic improvement compared to this month's offerings. Throughout July, Xbox One gamers will be able to download Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. While it's the fourth numbered game of the series, it acts a prequel to Assassin's Creed III. You get to play as Captain Edward Kenway, a master assassin who is just as talented at the helm of a pirate ship as he is with a blade. From July 16 to August 16, Xbox One users will be able to download the puzzle-platformer, So Many Me. This game is all about looking cute and solving puzzles. You control an adorable little blob who has a ton of clones and must navigate some intense levels.

In terms of Xbox 360 games, the original Plants Vs. Zombies will be available from July 1-15. This is the undead-botanical battle that started it all, so expect to set up some plant-based defenses against the slow-moving zombie hordes. For the second half of the month, Xbox 360 users will be able to download Gears of War 3. In Epic Games' swansong to the Marcus Fenix story, you'll reunite Delta Squad as they face the Lambent, a new type of enemy made from organisms mutated by Imulsion. All the while, there are still the Locust to worry about.

Don't forget to get Massive Chalice and Pool Nation FX (ugh) for Xbox One and Thief for Xbox 360 while you still can, as they'll no longer be free-to-download for Gold members as of July 1.
