No wonder Warlords of Draenor has had such insane server problems during its first week — World of Warcraft got an extra two and a half million subscribers signed on for its new expansion, Polygon reports.

At its peak, World of Warcraft had over 12 million subscribers, which no other MMORPG has come close to topping. Since then, things have dwindled a bit, with the Mists of Pandaria expansion peaking at approximately 9 million subscribers, and things continued to die down until this past August (you can thank Blizzard for doing an entire expansion based on the mercenary Brewmaster character in Warcraft III that no one cared about), where less than 7 million subscribers were still hooked onto WoW's digital teats, which was an all-time low for the game (but still really good compared to its competition). However, WoW has seen a slow, but steady, return to form, until the release of Warlords of Draenor. Now, all hell has broken loose and everyone started signing back into their old accounts.

Blizzard has seen tremendous subscription "growth across all major regions, including North America, Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia."

Warlords of Draenor released November 13 and comes with a free boost to power a character to level 90, so if you haven't played World of Warcraft in a while (or never played it at all), now is a better time than ever.
