Irrational included an extra-challenging game mode for the hardest of the hardcore in BioShock Infinite. Previously the developer said the only way to unlock it was by beating the game. Irrational lied.

BioShock Infinite's "1999 Mode" is a throwback to the days of games like System Shock 2, where every move you made could be the difference between life or death. Irrational went out of its way to say the extra hard difficulty could only be unlocked by beating the game, and that no cheat codes would allow you to access the new tier prematurely. Apparently Irrational was just having a little bit of fun at our expense, as entering a code on the main menu will allow you to choose "1999."

What's the code you ask? Well, if you're even remotely familiar with Konami, it should be a snap.

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A (Xbox 360, PC)

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Circle, X (PlayStation 3)

Be careful with this code though. Once you start a game on "1999," you can't adjust the difficulty at all without restarting the game entirely.
