The new launch trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt features Geralt of Rivia hot on the trail of his young apprentice.

The trailer starts off by showing a bunch of men in varying states of decomposition hung in a tree as Geralt, clad in chain mail and plate armor, passes by. Meanwhile, we see Ciri bloodied and on the run. She's seen falling unconscious while a menacing and inhuman beast is stalking her from afar. Geralt wakes up, reminding himself of the times that he trained Ciri as a child. Now, Geralt must find his former apprentice, who has lost all of her Witcher gear and looks to be facing death itself. Given her upbringing, Ciri has the capability to save or destroy the world, so many people out there are hunting her, and most of them do not have good intentions.

Ciri is actually the princess of Cintra, who gets put under Geralt's care after her parents die. She gets taken under Geralt's wing and trained as a Witcher by the likes of Geralt, Coen, Eskel, Lambert and Vesemir. She also gets combat and magic training from Yennefer and Triss Merigold. Unfortunately, Ciri's Witcher capabilities are still pretty green, resulting in her not being able to save herself from the threats of the world while on her own. It's up to Geralt to bring peace to the Northern Realms and to help bring her Ciri into his protection.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will debut on May 19 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
