As one of the most popular fighting franchises, it came as no surprise to see a bevvy of Mortal Kombat figures on full display at New York Comic Con. From high-end, mixed-media statues to fully-articulated figures from the latest sequel, MK fans are sure to have plenty to be excited about in the coming months.

We've known about Pop Culture Shock's line of massive Mortal Kombat statues for a while, but seeing images online and then seeing these hulking brutes in person are two quite different things. Not that we ever doubted the quality of the products. With Jerry Macaluso (formerly of SOTA) at the helm, we knew we were in store for some serious sculpting. However, it's not until you're inches away from Baraka's menacing grin or face-to-face with Scorpion's thousand-yard stare that the awe really sets in. Of course, even though Liu Kang doesn't strike quite as fearsome a profile, the attention to detail is nonetheless equal.

Ironically, directly across from Pop Culture Shock was a Mortal Kombat collectible of a different variety all together. Mezco, purveyors of fine licensed figures from 'Sons of Anarchy', 'Breaking Bad', and LittleBigPlanet, to name a few, are also taking the plunge into the Netherrealm. The last time we got articulated Mortal Kombat figures, the results were... less than inspiring. However, Mezco's got a history of quality products, and from the prototypes on display at NYCC this past weekend, it looks like any concerns will be dashed immediately. The first wave, as it stands now, will include a Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden, all of which makes perfect sense. The three are among the most recognizable and popular fighters in Mortal Kombat, and their MKX incarnations look great in six-inch form.

You can take a closer look at all the upcoming Mortal Kombat figures below.
