The JRPG formerly known as Fire Emblem If will be hitting Nintendo 3DS handhelds in 2016 as Fire Emblem Fates.

Nintendo made the excellent decision to rebrand the awkwardly named Fire Emblem If. Rising from If's ashes is Fire Emblem Fates, which will continue the excellent JRPG gameplay we loved with Awakening. Telling a compelling story and featuring an addictive combat system, Fates is likely going to be one of the best portable RPGs of 2016. We love the music, the visuals, the gameplay and even the voice acting featured in the trailer. If there's one thing we have to nitpick about, it would have to be the environmental backgrounds during combat, especially for the indoor areas. The combat backgrounds look huge, which make the characters seem ant sized. Nevertheless, you know what to expect when it comes to the Fire Emblem series, and we can't wait for Fates to deliver.

Fire Emblem Fates will launch sometime in spring 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS. The Japanese version of Fire Emblem If will have white and black versions that offer two different stories. Unfortunately, Nintendo did not confirm whether or not this will be the case for Fire Emblem Fates.
