What happens when you take Pokemon Snap, Ghostbusters and The Grudge and blend them together? You get Fatal Frame 5, which has now been confirmed for a Western release on Wii U this year.

Nintendo has announced that a new Fatal Frame will be heading over to the Wii U. While Nintendo's Bill Trinen did not specifically call it by its translated name, Fatal Frame 5: The Black-Haired Shrine Maiden, he simply called this a new game of the series. This suggests that Nintendo and Koei Tecmo will likely be giving the fifth Fatal Frame game a new forename before it hits North America this year. You'll be able to control one of three characters while they explore a decrepit resort with a camera that can seal away the restless and evil spirits that still haunt the area.

The Wii U's GamePad will be able to act as the camera, as its touchscreen will give you the viewpoint of the camera in order to get the phantasms and dastardly spirits centered in your shot for the most damage. The Fatal Frame series has always been one of the scariest names in all of gaming, and we're glad to finally be having a new entry of the series. One of those characters appears to be Ayame from the Dead or Alive series, who is making one strange crossover (it's definitely not volleyball).

Stay tuned as we'll provide up-to-date coverage as this new Fatal Frame title will hit the Wii U sometime later this year.
