The studio known for Dragon Age and Mass Effect have unveiled its new story-driven online action RPG, Shadow Realms.

Shadow Realms is BioWare's newly announced RPG that will introduce fantasy to the modern times. An insidious force, The Shadowlord, will take on four heroes in online, co-op adventures. Players can play as, or against, this dark entity. This is similar to the style of gameplay we have been seeing in games like Fable Legends and Evolve, where four players take on a player-controlled villain. Similar to Titanfall, you will get huge pieces of its Shadow Realms' story, in an episodic manner, before each mission.

“This game brings us back to our roots in the realm of classic Pen and Paper RPG, but also delivers something that’s completely new and innovative for our fans,” said Jeff Hickman, General Manager and VP of BioWare Austin. “Shadow Realms is a new BioWare RPG that has the hallmarks of all BioWare games with a rich story, a unique world setting and deep combat progression, but built as an interactive experience that evolves the genre and broadens the appeal to online gamers all over the world.”

If BioWare Austin is developing Shadow Realms, then this suggests the new IP, that Casey Hudson said BioWare Edmonton was working on, is a different game.

Shadow Realms will be available for PC. Unfortunately, no sort of launch window has been announced nor any any kind of console release.
