As reported by Venture Beat, release news of the long in development The Last Guardian, a game developed by acclaimed Japanese developer Team Ico, remains nonexistent. During an interview at the PlayStation 4 event, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida was unwilling to give any kind of details on the game, admitting that the company has, "broken promises."

The only update gamers received on The Last Guardian came from a statement released from Fumito Ueda on his personal blog earlier this month, in which he claimed he was still working on the game as a freelance contributor. "I should also mention that details regarding The Last Guardian's release is decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself," said Ueda. "Please keep an eye for an official announcement." The storyline centers on the adventures of a boy and a griffin named Trico.

Team Ico, under the leadership of Ueda, developed the revered PlayStation 2 titles Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The Last Guardian, which has been in development since 2007, is the organization's foray into the PlayStation 3 universe. With PlayStation 4 just around the corner, The Last Guardian may serve as a fitting final chapter for the PlayStation 3 if the game ever sees the light of day.
