Batman: Arkham Knight

Though the release of Batman: Arkham Knight went rather smoothly for Rocksteady Studios on console platforms, the PC release has been an absolute hot mess since last month. The good news is Rocksteady has taken up the reins from Iron Galaxy, the studio who handled the PC port, to fix up all the issues the computer version has had since it dropped. The bad news is those fixes are likely still months away. According to a leaked email from EB Games Australia (obtained by Kotaku AU), Warner Bros. has informed the retailer that a patch won't be ready until spring. At first that sounds incredibly damning, but Australian spring begins in September, which means we're looking at six to eight weeks for the update to arrive at the earliest. Given how much work needs to be done, expecting that patch to arrive at 12:01AM on Sept. 1 might be a tad unrealistic.

The release of Rocksteady Studios' Batman: Arkham Knight has come and gone, and left a divisive trail in the Batmobile's wake. Whether you found the missions focused on the tank-like Batmobile tedious or thought the inclusion of Batman's iconic ride was a brilliant gamble on Rocksteady's part, the developer is still planning on supporting the game with even more Batmobile goodies. While the Batgirl story DLC is dropping this month (this week for Season Pass holders, next week for everyone else), Rocksteady has teased the next batch of add-ons with some new images. Where the Batgirl missions will be handled by Arkham Origins studio WB Montreal, the remaining content will be handled exclusively by Rocksteady. We know the next six months of DLC will introduce new villains, skins, challenge maps, race tracks, Batmobile models and story missions, but we know little details about what that means. For all we know, the only story missions will be the Batgirl content arriving this week, and the remainder just be different skins, Batmobiles and race tracks. Case in point, the upcoming August drop, which features seven new skins, and the classic Tim Burton era Batmobile.

Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Knight has only been out for a few weeks, and already we've got rumors and reports about what's next for DC Comics' heroes in the video game world. While there have been reports about a Justice League or Superman game for almost as long as the Batman: Arkham series has been successful, nothing substantial has ever turned up. A few different developers not named Rocksteady tried their hands at Superman and Flash games for the previous generation, but those never saw the light of day, leaving us with Batman: Arkham as the only non-MMO console experience. Now, just days before San Diego Comic-Con is set to kick off, new rumors have surfaced that a Superman game is actually in the works... from someone. Maybe. That's part of the problem with the rumor mill; it's just too easy to fake things these days. Since Batman: Arkham Asylum's release, Rocksteady has been tinkering with the formula that made that first game so successful, and the culmination of those efforts can be seen in Batman: Arkham Knight. The combat so many competitors have aped is as sharp as ever, the breadth and scope of Gotham City is staggering, and the presentation is absolutely eye-popping. The inclusion of the Batmobile, divisive as it may be, for the fist time shows that Rocksteady is willing to take big chances even with its final word on the franchise. Despite its over-reliance on a few new tricks, Batman: Arkham Knight is a stellar game that cements Rocksteady Studios as one of the premiere action game developers of the modern era.
