The Tom Clancy series of third-person shooters has returned with a new, shiny engine behind it.

According to the Xbox Wire, Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment studio has been working with a new engine code-named 'Snowdrop' in order to create Tom Clancy's The Division. Snowdrop is Massive's way of creating games from scratch specifically for next-gen platforms. The engine is node-based and is integrated in all systems, from mission-scripting, model-rendering to being able to assemble in-game models together live and instantaneously seeing how the environment reacts to what was altered. If The Division turns out to be successful, we have a feeling that we will see Snowdrop being used again quite soon.

Tom Clancy's The Division is due for a late 2014 release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
