Lab Zero Games' all-girl fighter is getting its first male combatant.

Peter Bartholow, CEO of Lab Zero Games, has just announced on the PlayStation Blog that Big Band will be joining the ranks of Skullgirls Encore as a DLC character on April 22 This marks the first male contender to join the Skullgirls roster since the game's inception. Big Band hardly adheres to any of the archetypes we have come to expect from most male fighting game characters. Don't expect jagged muscles, a karate gi or a headband, Big Band is a huge dude hidden by a trench coat who has a giant saxophone attached to his body which will be an integral part of his melodic fighting style.

Lab Zero has also revealed some of the upcoming combatants they plan on adding to Skullgirls in the near future, such as Fukua the botanical brawler and Eliza the Egyptian siren. Be sure to download the first free DLC character to join Skullgirls, Squigly, before she becomes a paid-DLC character on May 6. The best news that came from these announcements is that Big Band will be joining the Skullgirls roster for free starting on April 22 for the PC and PlayStation 3 versions of Skullgirls Encore. Skullgirls fans on Xbox 360 might unfortunately have to wait a few more days for Big Band's release.
