Activision announced today that Skylanders Trap Team, the next installment in the wildly popular video game/toy hybrid, will be coming to mobile devices on Oct. 5, the same day the game launches for all of the major consoles.

A new bundle, The Skylanders Trap Team Tablet Starter Pack, will launch alongside the video games and include Bluetooth-enabled Portal of Power, a Bluetooth-capable controller, a built-in tablet stand, two Skylanders characters, two Traps and a display tray. No price was announced for the Tablet Starter Pack.

Eric Hirshberg, Activision CEO, is excited about the move. "Skylanders has become an incredibly appealing brand and franchise for kids around the world. And the tablet has become an incredibly appealing gaming platform for kids around the world. But we haven't been able to bring the full Skylanders experience to the tablet until now," Hirshberg said. "We always want to deliver breakthrough experiences, and we also always want to be wherever gamers want to play. This is a chance for us to bring the magic of Skylanders to a whole new platform and audience."

This doesn't initially sound like a big deal, but this move now means that parents no longer need to buy their children a console or 3DS in order to play Skylanders, It could end up being a huge blow to console sales, as familiar with children make up more of the gaming nation that we probably think.

Skylanders Trap Team launches Oct. 5 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Wii, 3DS, and select mobile devices.
