Harmonix Announces Visual Music App for Samsung Gear VR
The studio known for Rock Band and Guitar Hero has announced one of the first apps that will be hitting Samsung's Note 4-powered virtual reality headset.
Harmonix has announced that it is developing Harmonix Music VR, which will be launching alongside the Samsung Gear VR. Harmonix Music VR is a music app that will have you fully immersed in your music while using the Samsung Gear headset. It will be implementing Harmonix's proprietary Music Analysis Engine technology to create high-resolution event sequences that will be visually based on the specific song you're playing. We have a feeling this will be like the visualizations you get with most PC media players when playing a song, but in 3D-panning on the VR headset. Since the Samsung Gear VR requires a Samsung Note 4, your phone's library will likely be the source of your music.
“Harmonix has always been interested in creating fundamentally new ways for people to interact with music,” says studio CEO Steve Janiak. “There’s an incredible amount of potential for this with virtual reality, and ‘Harmonix Music VR’ with Gear VR is just one way we can deliver on these types of innovative experiences. We can’t wait to hear what people think about this new way to experience the music they love.”
Harmonix Music VR will be available for the Samsung Gear VR on the day of its launch, which is expected to be sometime by the end of the year.
