Once thought to be exclusive to Japan, Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest Heroes will launch in North America and Europe for PS4 this fall.

Dragon Quest Heroes moves the veteran JRPG series from its turn-based roots to a more of an action-oriented area of gameplay where players can control multiple characters at a time as they fight hordes of giant monsters. One view of the gameplay video above and anyone can see this isn't your typical Dragon Quest experience.

Dragon Quest Heroes marks the first time a Dragon Quest game has been localized since Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies in 2009, and the first PlayStation title of the franchise since Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King launched back in 2006.

This is fantastic news for Dragon Quest and RPG fans alike, but this is also a call to action: there's another Dragon Quest game waiting in the wings to be localized, and if Heroes here can prove itself to the Western audience, then perhaps that Dragon Quest VII port we've all been anticipating may finally happen as well. This is a good start, Square Enix, but don't stop now. We're still hoping that the Wii U re-release of Dragon Quest X, an MMORPG, somehow gets a Western debut.

Dragon Quest Heroes will be launching this fall exclusively on PlayStation 4.
