The strange Counter-Strike and Nexon partnership set in a zombie apocalypse launches in open beta this week, so PC players around the world will be able to get a taste of what these two names are cooking up.

The official press release says that "starting today, users with a Steam account may join the Open Beta for free and play a vital part in the finalization of the game, which features unpredictable wild zombies and new game modes. Those who join the beta will be able to help influence the game and get a jump on the competition before the game is officially released in early October."

“As always, player feedback means a great deal to us, and is reflected in our games,” according to Nexon Europe product executive Paul Lee. “We want to hear about which weapons players enjoy using, which modes they found the most fun, and what they would like to see more of in Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies.”

This is a weird amalgamation, but we have to admit that we're intrigued by the whole thing. Counter-Strike mastered the team-based shooter genre a long time ago, and Nexon has long established itself as a top free-to-play MMO developer, so bringing the two together could potentially produce a big time success. We'll have a chance to find out starting today.

Players who want to kill some zombies Counter-Strike style can download the beta here.
