The developers behind Mass Effect may be hard at work on a new sequel in that franchise, but BioWare is also crafting a new franchise it hopes will be as grand in scope.

During a panel at PAX East, BioWare's Casey Hudson divulged that he and his team were working on a brand-new project, IGN reported. Hudson hopes to "build something new" as the studio did when it crafted the first Mass Effect title. Hudson also intimate the game would take place in a "whole new universe," though stopped short of explaining what genre of the game's story. BioWare already has a high-fantasy series with Dragon Age, and an excellent sci-fi tale with Mass Effect, so it should be interesting to see where the developer goes next.

Oddly enough, BioWare also revealed the next Mass Effect sequel would take place in a whole new universe as well. The team is certainly strong at world building, but with all these different universes, things could get tricky. We'll just have to wait and see what's in store.
