Battlefield Hardline Launch on Xbox One Suffers DDoS Attacks
There are just some people who want to watch the world burn and those people reared their ugly heads at Battlefield Hardline's launch on Xbox One.
IGN reports that crime has hit the launch of Battlefield Hardline in a way we weren't expecting. Multiple users were having a hard time connecting to the game's servers on the Xbox One. Since then, the studio behind the game have taken to Twitter to assuage the people's frustrations. Due to the overwhelming number of connectivity issues, DICE and Visceral Games have stepped forward to reveal that the Xbox One version of the game was struck with a massive DDoS attack on its launch day.
"We are aware of #BFHardline connectivity issues on Xbox One," said a representative on Battlefield's official Twitter. "We've got our best on it and hope to resolve soon. Thanks for your patience. We've identified the connectivity issues on Xbox One are due to DDoS attack and working to resolve. Apologies for the inconvenience."
If you're confused about what exactly a DDoS attack is and why it's cutting into your precious game time, read on. A DDoS attack is when someone comes onto a server and basically overloads it. They flood the network of certain servers, which then become distressed to the point of crashing. Oftentimes, this is done by hackers that have nothing better to do with their lives than ruin others' enjoyment, especially since these hackers are gaining nothing by performing these attacks.
There's no official word on what's going on with the multiplayer on the Xbox One version of Battlefield Hardline as of now, all we know is that they were recently restarted. Hopefully Visceral Games is able to get a handle on the situation soon.
