The snarling, Nazi-slaying antics of B.J. Blazkowicz gets cranked to the extreme with these new details on Wolfenstein: The Old Blood.

Bethesda has revealed all kinds of awesome new features that MachineGames will be including in its standalone expansion of The New Order, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. This expansion (more like a game on its own) acts as a prequel to recent hit FPS and will provide two different stories starring B.J. Blazkowicz, "Rudi Jager and the Den of Wolves" and "The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schnabbs."

Given The New Order's cliffhanger ending, we're glad to see MachineGames go back in time to continue the B-movie aesthetics and cranking it up to the max with undead and robotic Nazi forces to kill. Sure, we're revisiting areas from Castle Wolfenstein, but everything is new, such as B.J.'s brutal metal pipe kills. These look much more different than the knife in the previous game. Plus, B.J. can extend it to dual-wield the weapon, which makes it a progression tool as well as a blood-fueled weapon.

“There are elements in The Old Blood that fill in some blanks in the New Order story. There’s more stuff about Da’at Yichud technology, even though we don’t necessarily call it that. There are hints and clues and nods to The New Order hidden throughout the game,” said senior producer John Jennings. “People playing it in different orders will get a unique experience, but both of them will have a good time.”

Wolftenstein: The Old Blood will launch on May 5 for $19.99 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. You don't have to own a copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order as The Old Blood will be a standalone expansion that takes place both before and after it.
