Experienced gamers have probably moved on from playing Tamagotchi on a keychain, but to reignite their virtual pet fix Bandai has announced that Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. will be available on iOS and Android devices.

Launched in 1996, Tamagotchi had players pressing buttons on a keychain to nurture their virtual pet, and the cute little animal would die if their owners weren't attentive to its care. An estimated 78 million units were sold of the item, whose moniker is a fusion of "tamago" (the Japanese word for egg) and watch.

Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. will contain a retro mode and mini games, as well as other new features.

"Fans who grew up with Tamagotchi are today, positive, assured, intrepid, cooperative and empowering...when you factor in its modern-day update with a trendsetting focus, youll understand what Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. is all about," said a spokesman.

So will you download this new app on your iPhone, or is Tamagotchi simply a keychain thing? Tell us if you're still open to raising virtual pets!
