The producer and creators of Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness have some high hopes for this anticipated sci-fi RPG. If all goes well, they could even do a sequel.

Kotaku reports that some of the team members at Tri-Ace and Square Enix who are working hard at bringing Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness to life have revealed some of their hopes and plans for this fifth entry of the series. In a round table discussion with the weekly Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, Square Enix producer Shuichi Kobayashi, Star Ocean creator Yoshiharu Gotanda and series veteran Hiroshi Ogawa each spoke on what they hope this new game will bring. Kobayashi explained that he was hoping to make a new game of the series shortly after Star Ocean: The Last Hope dropped on last-gen consoles six years ago.

"I was in charge of marketing, so I kept hoping someone would do it,” Kobayashi said with a laugh. “So I decided I’d go ahead and start the project. I decided to give my life to Star Ocean and changed departments and became in charge of production.”

Kobayashi explained that he took his time in getting the right people involved with the project, which is why it took so long for them to really start developing it. He felt that it was pivotal to include the series creator and lead programmer Yoshiharu Gotanda and to include Hiroshi Ogawa in the director's chair.

“I wanted to insert the essence of Star Ocean 3 heavily into Star Ocean 5,” Kobayashi said in reference to Gotanda and Ogawa's inclusion. “As I said before, I switched departments for Star Ocean. That’s why, I’d like to continue releasing games for the series. I’m working to make Star Ocean 5 so that not only will series fans will enjoy it, but newcomers will as well, so that people will want a sequel.”

Gotanda's closing words left us really hopeful for this RPG and what could potentially follow:

“Of all the games I’ve worked on, I’ve written enough for this game alone to fill several novels. I don’t know if everything I’ve written will make it into the game, but I hope people will get to experience a grand story.”

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness does not yet have a Western or Japanese launch date yet, but it has been confirmed for both a PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 release. We most likely won't be seeing it in the Americas until well into 2016.
