Respawn Reminisces on Leaving Infinity Ward, Making Titanfall

The guys in charge at Respawn Entertainment chime in about the hardships they had in leaving Infinity Ward and starting from scratch with Titanfall in this recent developer diary.

Vince Zampella and Jason West were two of the co-creators of Infinity Ward when the studio formed in 2002. The two went on to revamp the Call of Duty franchise from being based during the wars of yesteryear into the modern era, and becoming the multiplayer juggernaut it is today. Due to disagreements (to put it mildly) with Activision, the two decided to leave Infinity Ward and created Respawn Entertainment.

Jason West left Respawn for undisclosed reasons a few months after the studio's inception, but this video depicts Vince Zampella's struggle as he and a select few team members had started to squat in an abandoned office building without even having a lease. Vince claims that it was just him and Jason as they signed a contract with EA while not even having any idea for a title, which led to them theorizing and planning out Titanfall's premise while sitting on lawn chairs inside their empty office. Throughout the months that passed, Respawn started reeling in some experienced studio workers and even a couple of employees from Infinity Ward who held similar ideals.

Considering that Vince Zampella has played a pivotal role in the success of the first two Modern Warfare titles, we can't wait to see how Titanfall will reflect Zampella's unhindered, creative insight. We'll get to see Respawn's debut work once Titanfall debuts for the Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC on March 11.
