MiniDayZ is not only a hit with players, but also with Bohemia Interactive, and has managed to get picked up and hosted on DayZ's official website.

Eurogamer reports that DayZ fan, CannedBits, has been developing his MiniDayZ project since the beginning of the year. Now, it looks like his hard work has paid off in the form of this top-down, retro version of DayZ. MiniDayZ is a re-imagined survival sandbox game that gives you the feel of DayZ with retro-esque graphics. There are quite a few differences to the game, with one of the biggest ones being that it's single-player, but it still has the same premise of having to find resources and staying the heck away from all those zombies.

Dean "Rocket" Hall, the sole designer of the original DayZ mod, was so impressed that he wrote about the project on the DayZ Reddit:

"I have to say, I absolutely love MiniDayZ," said Hall, "I think it's awesome, amazing, addictive, and brings something really new to the experience."

"Ignore the haters...  The vast majority of people think it's fantastic and I am one of those people."

Hall thought it was so great that he hosted it on DayZ's official website and gave it a spot in Bohemia Interactive's official forum. While it's unclear what Bohemia and the game's developer have in terms of a relationship, this is still a huge step for CannedBits.

If you're interested in playing MiniDayZ, you can head on over to Bohemia's site and play it for free on your web browser.
